// How did you get your start in the industry?
My beauty education and career started all at the same time when I got a job at a Shu Uemura when I was 17 years old. They hired me and trained me. It was there that I met other makeup artists who were further along in their careers and offered to let me assist them.
// Do you have a signature look or style that you are known for?
I am a huge advocate for healthy fresh looking skin. I think people can recognise the flushed cheek I love gals to have.
// What was one of your biggest career challenges and how did you overcome it?
Biggest career challenge is truly having faith. Having faith that if I stuck with it the jobs would come. When you choose a freelance lifestyle there is a very real current that ebbs and flows. You have to stay on track to ensure that you catch the waves.
// Must have tool or products for your kit?
Need a great lash curler, I love Shu Uemura. An amazing cream blush, Laura Mercier has amazing shades. A perfect taupe shadow, my favourite is NARS Blondie. The Bobbi Brown pro foundation palette is a must. And a full range of lip coloUrs, preferable cut in a palette for easy viewing access.
// Who are the role models who have inspired you?
In life? My mother. Strong, loyal and honest. In work? Jillian Dempsey was my first work role model. Her artistry is spot on and her ethic and dedication to her craft is admirable.
// How much creative input do you have when working with a celebrity?
Honestly, for me it's not about creativity with a celebrity. Of course it peaks it's way into the look. But for me the main focus and goal is to make her feel amazing. So that means her needs and desires come before my creative ideas. If creative makeup artistry is your desire, fashion is where it's at.
// What's the next big trend you're starting to see sneak in?
I am hoping its fresh skin. I'm real tired of the contoured highlighted masks that so many girls are gravitating towards. Let's enhance what we have instead of covering it up and reshaping it completely.
// What do you enjoy to do when the brushes are down?
Spending time with my 3 kids. Painting and a few sun salutations!
