// Who needs any inspiration to wear a bright lip? (Insert crickets sound-effect here).

NO-ONE right? But wearing a bright lipstick on September 23rd will not only have you looking ready for spring but also raising funds and awareness on #brightpinklipstickday.

Pink Hope’s annual #BrightPinkLipstickDay campaign is encouraging everyone to have a conversation about their family's health history.

Pink Hope Founder Krystal Barter is a preventative cancer activist, speaker and author. Historically speaking, Krystal's family is terribly familiar with cancer and she discovered this was not just bad luck or by chance, but due to a gene fault called BRCA1 (the same gene made famous by Angelina Jolie) which predisposes the carrier to breast and ovarian cancer.

At just 25 years old changes were discovered in Krystal's breast tissue. She took the harrowing but necessary decision to have a preventative double mastectomy, and in 2014 took the final step of having her ovary and fallopian tubes removed to reduce her risk of ovarian cancer.

We can help to start the conversation about women’s health.

Any hospital recovery is daunting and hardly the headspace for inspiration, but it was here Krystal came up with an idea to counteract the isolation and lack of information for at-risk families, just as she was experiencing at the time.

Krystal created Pink Hope for women. Her goal? To ensure Pink Hope reaches every corner of the country to find every at-risk family and provide the information and support they need dealing with this potential genetic killer.

As a result, Pink Hope has been overwhelmed by support through social media and event fundraising efforts like Pink Lip Day.

Prevention and early detection are key. So have a conversation with your loved ones about your family history and risk. The more information you have means you can better understand your individual risk and take action.
